The tidal shifts… the failing crops… the crazy changes to animal migration… And I think all of this is just the start. I don’t buy the official line that these are natural occurrences. Not anymore. Not since a whistleblower hid a coded message in my invitation for an upcoming commemoration ceremony on The Vita. Now I know the truth — that Earth is in serious danger from the side-effects of their reckless research. Since the moment I found out, I’ve known what I have to do. Three years ago, I went into space and almost died saving the world from a madman’s evil plan. When I made it home, I swore I’d never leave my family behind again. But to make sure we’ll still have a planet to call home in another three years, I have to go back. And this time, they’re coming with me…

A Strange Feeling in This Snippet of The Psychic Guardian Angel Book 1
The Psychic Guardian Angel Book 1 First Casualty
What do you do when you have a supernatural gift? Run away from it or embrace it?
First Casualty snippet –
Daniels, August 2000
Great Grandma Nan has been dead since my mother was a little girl, but that hadn’t stopped her from visiting me every once in a while to deliver a cryptic message. She appeared in my dreams, maybe in my room, and we’d talk for a few minutes before she disappeared.
The first time she visited, Great Grandma Nan told me, “Jacob, pay attention to your feelings. But don’t mind how others react.”
I followed my feelings and led a woman and her son away from a Metro Transit bus stop seconds before a truck crashed through it. The second part of her message was intended to prepare me for the woman’s reaction. After Mom told her I had guided us there, the woman was afraid of me.
Another time, Great Grandma Nan stated, “Listen with your heart.”
I helped find a little kid who was separated from his mom at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. I simply knew where he was and told Emily, a telepath I was having a psychic conversation with, where to look. Emily followed my directions and led the police to the boy. I watched as he was reunited with his relieved mother, who was unaware of how he had been found.
Then Great Grandma Nan came and remarked, “Hard times are coming. Be careful. You’ll have to be strong.”
After she left, I woke and could not fall back to sleep. I lay there and stared at the ceiling, then read for a while. The book may not have been the best choice. Keeper of the Children by William H. Hallahan. It included out-of-body experiences and murderous cats. Then I meditated.
It didn’t work very well. I couldn’t see, hear, or feel my breath, couldn’t find focus. I may have fallen asleep, though, because I had a vision of myself being chased. Since I normally don’t have visions, it had to have been a nightmare, which meant I had to have fallen asleep.
After that, I got out of bed. Yoga was better at getting me thinking about something else, namely, not falling. In spite of how good my balance is most days, it was a concern here. My mind would drift, and I’d begin to lean, which is the first step in falling out of a tree pose where I stood on one foot, the other foot off the floor and pressed against the knee holding me up.
I traveled back and forth across the living room, practicing the Tae Kwon Do routine my instructor Mr. Lee had taught me. He would be glad to hear I was doing exercises outside of class, but since I wasn’t actually hitting something, I didn’t feel any better.
When I knew he’d be awake, I called my friend John Thompson. He was willing to play some tennis, something we did on a regular basis. We would often play doubles, with John and our friend Warren Marsh playing against John’s sister Rachel and me. John and I met at the courts near Loring Elementary. Most days, playing singles, we’re about even. If I can consistently return his serve, I can sometimes win. This time he beat me badly. He jogged around the court, arms and racquet over his head as he chanted, “And the crowd goes wild. Thompson slaughters Daniels. Thompson slaughters Daniels.”
As we walked away from the courts, John asked, “What’s wrong with you today? You played like crap.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“I can’t believe how many times I aced you,” he commented. “I may beat you on quite a few serves, but usually, you take a whack at it and are pretty good at getting to the ball.”
“Your serve was really good today,” I told him.
“No, it wasn’t. I hit a lot of them into the net, and you didn’t even know it. Half of my aces came off my lame second serve. I probably could have used third or fourth serves and gotten away with it.”
“There are no third or fourth serves,” I pointed out.
“I know. But you stood there and watched the ball go by.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I felt like I was playing alone.”
“Didn’t stop you from gloating when we finished,” I noted.
“Of course not,” John replied. “Opportunities to gloat are rare, so you have to take advantage of every chance you get. So what’s your deal?”
“I don’t know what’s going on.” I drew a deep breath. “I feel like I’m supposed to be somewhere but have no idea where, when, or why.” We walked part of a block in silence. “Add that to nightmares and sleeping like crap and ‘Thompson slaughters Daniels.’“
“And the crowd went wild,” John added, his arms over his head.
John’s mom pulled the family’s Ford Taurus to the curb next to us. “Headed home?”
“We are,” John confirmed. “Are you?”
“I wasn’t supposed to work today,” Mrs. Thompson noted. “But I went in for a while, made sure everything was organized for the new girl. Then I stopped at the grocery store. Now, I have the rest of the day off, so yeah, I’m on my way home. Get in.”
We piled in, and John rode in front next to Mrs. Thompson. He chattered away about how Thompson had slaughtered Daniels. I kept my gaze locked out the window, hoping I might pick up a clue as to what I was supposed to be doing. Everything looked the same as it did most days. Yet the thought I was supposed to be somewhere doing something wouldn’t go away.
Mrs. Thompson parked the car at the curb in front of the house and popped the trunk. We circled to the rear of the Taurus, and she loaded John’s arms with her purchases. He gave me a dirty look as I walked up the sidewalk, unencumbered beyond our racquets and tennis balls. I smiled back. I’ve told him before that his mom likes me best.
We took the three steps onto the porch, and Mrs. Thompson pulled open the screen door. Her right hand slid the key into the lock, her left closed on the doorknob. She inhaled sharply and twitched a little taller. “Something’s happened to Rachel.”
I guess we found out why Jacob was there. Find out what his next move will be and how he will use his gifts on June 6th when First Casualty: Book 1 in the Psychic Guardian Angel series is released. Until then head over to Amazon and pre-order it today.

The Forbidden Incantations snippet –
“If we don’t hurry, we won’t be able to catch the boat in time,” Samantha Tempestade said to her best friend as they hurried through the busy streets. Sam moved with an agility and grace that could have only belonged to a nineteen-year-old girl who had been athletic almost all her life. As quick as she could be, the one thing she had never been good at was arriving on time.
Lily Vivace, the other nineteen-year-old trying to keep up, had never been helpful for this problem. She giggled. “I think we ate too much this morning. I really don’t want to run anywhere right now. I feel like I’ve eaten five breakfasts in one.”
Sam grinned. “I think you had one too many pain au chocolat, Lil, but even after all that, I can still count your ribs over your shirt.”
“There’s no such thing as too much chocolat.”
They had gotten out of the Champs-Élysées an hour later than they had planned, and the location of the boat at the Haropa port to the south was farther than either one of them had guessed. Normally, they did not take the Parisian streets on foot and so had not accounted for how long it would take. But Sam and Lily had deserved the brunch and shopping this morning!
They needed nice clothing for their arrival at the Academy. No one liked being a first-year in last year’s clothes—or so Lily had said before insisting Sam purchase the dark green trousers and beige, chiffon blouse she had been eyeing in one of the shops. The satchel holding her new clothing and some other prized possessions thumped at Sam’s side. She was beginning to regret how much time and money they had spent on shopping, though.
She rounded the corner and entered the Rue Saint-Rustique. It was the oldest street in Montmartre and just so happened to be where all of Lily’s favorite vintage shops were. Sam wound through the narrow, cobbled street, careful to avoid plunging into carts and skirting dogs out on leashes.
Sam remembered her first time in Paris with Lily. When they were little girls, Lily’s grandmother, who owned a summer house in the French countryside, had brought them into the country’s capital. They had spent many summers here since. Sam loved coming here, as did Lily, but it was one of the worst places for them to be so close to sundown. The dying sun shone on the glass windows, reflecting faces in a pleasant, orange haze. It was Lily’s favorite spot for taking Instagram photos, buying new clothes, and…
“Oh, Sam! The Le Consulat, I’ve been dying to try—”
Sam rolled her eyes and grabbed her friend’s arm. “We don’t have the time.” She only held onto Lily’s hand for a moment before releasing her again and clattering down a part of the street that took a sharp decline.
Sam and Lily left the street and came to a broader avenue. They had to go several more blocks south to reach the harbor. Sam was beginning to feel anxious about missing the boat. She had been anxious before, but only in theory. Now it thrummed in her chest, telling her that if she didn’t make it to the water by the time the sun set, the boat would leave without them and there went their first year at university. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the school wasn’t so exclusive, hidden, and only accepted a certain small number of new students every year who were required to attend the first night of the new term. Why, she did not know, and she wanted to find out. I can’t find out this way, running around trying to figure out where the hell I am going.
Lily had suggested a taxi earlier, but Sam had been against this because a taxi would take just as long in traffic as running did.
Sam, who had been running ahead this entire time, glanced over her shoulder and noticed Lily’s dark green hood falling away from her mass of dark curls. She gestured for Lily to pull her hood back up. “Thank you,” Lily mouthed.
The greatest question both girls now had was the location of the Academy. To keep the school a secret from those who did not attend or were not alumni, the precise location of the school was not disclosed. It could be under these very streets for all we know, Sam thought.
All Sam thought about for the next few minutes was the fact that staying on top of her classes was the only reason she had been accepted into the top-secret school. The same went for Lily. It wouldn’t matter, though, if the boat left without them. Sam did, however, try to remain positive. “I don’t know why we don’t buy watches in all those nice shops we go to,” she called to Lily.
When no response came, Sam halted and turned. Lily was nowhere in sight. “Lil?” No answer. Sam cursed. With how busy the Parisian streets could be, it was easy to get separated. She probably got distracted by something she saw in a window, Sam thought.
Lily knew her way to the port, and Sam was sure they would run into one another on the way. Still, she worried for her friend. This was going to make them later than ever! Sam turned and wound her way back through the streets in search of her friend. She sent Lily a text and tried calling her, but there was no response to either. Dammit, Lily!
Sam cut down a side street. Isn’t this the area where all the muggings happen? The buildings above her were tall and slanted toward one another so that only a sliver of the burning red sunlight penetrated the alley. I won’t be around long enough for it to matter.
As soon as she had this thought, Sam knew to eat her words. She exited one of the alleys and came out into a small, empty square. The place was rundown, and the buildings around her appeared to have been left unoccupied for quite some time. Sam heard a rustling sound behind her followed by low snickers and voices. Oh no. Her heart sank. Sam turned in time to see two drunk young men stumbling out of the alley.
Sam didn’t let her thoughts go on. It wasn’t going to matter, because she wasn’t going to let anything bad happen to her. She thought she might be able to flee the scene with a speed most humans did not possess, but then she saw what the young men had in their hands. Well, this is just my old Tempestade luck, isn’t it?
Sam had seen such magical trinkets many times, but not in the hands of muggers. From the looks of it, the young men had stolen the trinkets and didn’t know a damn thing about them. It wasn’t until Sam saw them turning over the brass, gold, silver, and jeweled objects in their hands and laughing about what they might be that she realized they had not yet seen her. She slipped into the shadow of another alley and peered out at them. “That old man had a lot of heavy shit on him,” one of the men chortled in a heavy, French accent. “Must be feelin’ it gone now. Too bad he didn’t see us.”
The others laughed. Sam’s heart leapt in indignation. They had robbed a wizard. Sam hoped the muggers never found out what the hell they were really holding. Or worse, how to use them. A single one of those could be thrown in any direction and have the effect of a magical bomb. Another could let out a paralyzing fume made from flowers beyond this world. At least, that was what Sam could gather from her vantage point. Her father collected all sorts of strange magical contraptions, and the ones the muggers held looked like things she had seen in his study. She debated whether she should attack the muggers and get the trinkets away from them or if she should take the chance to slip away.
Too late. Their eyes strayed in her direction. “You there! What’re ya hidin’ for?” Before they could get a good look at Sam, she launched out from the shadows, both fists raised and ready to pummel. She swept one fist across the first young man’s face, and he staggered back, clutching at it and hissing in pain. Alarmed sounds rang out from his companion. “I wasn’t hiding,” she snarled. “But if you try one thing with me, you’ll be hiding a few bruises tomorrow.”
“What was that for?” the one who had been punched said right before Sam ran, leapt, and kicked him in the stomach. He fell to the ground with no air in his lungs even to groan. The other was not having it. Growling, he rushed her, but Sam was ready. She spun to kick and followed it up with a punch. She only knocked his shoulder, though, and he came back at her and clocked her across the cheek. Stunned, Sam stumbled backward. The hood fell from her head.
The young man laughed. “Aw, it’s a little girl come to play. Let’s show her some real scrapping.” The one on the ground barely moved. The other glared at her with a heat in his eyes that could have melted through her clothes. Sam didn’t let him stare for long.
“It’s a shame not one of you can fight me alone. It takes both of you to beat up on a little girl?” Sam taunted before she vaulted across the space between them, now shadowed by the darkness of night. The sun was a straight line of red on the horizon, melting away rapidly. Sam was breathing hard. If she wanted this fight over, she was going to have to focus. She wished she could bring her mana out of her being in its true form, but it was too risky here in the sight of the humans. She was going to have to rely on her supernatural energy to make her movements more quick, precise, and strong than they would have been otherwise.
Her fists flew, and before the drunk man knew what had happened, she knocked him flat to the ground. When Sam looked up, she took a sharp intake of breath. A third man had appeared from the side alley. He gave her a heated stare. In his hand shone a knife. Was he with these muggers or on his own? It didn’t matter, because a second later he came at her without a word.
Sam ducked and spun. She kicked out her leg to trip him up, but he evaded her and struck out, slashing the knife toward her. He got part of her cloak and would have cut her arm if she did not lift it at the last second. Sam’s heart beat faster. She was beginning to find it difficult to keep going without using the full force of her magic. For a moment, Sam was tempted to do so. Who would believe this man’s story?
No, she told herself. They told me never to risk it. There were good reasons for that. Even getting into this fight was the opposite of what she was supposed to be doing. “Don’t draw attention to your magic among humans,” her father had warned her.
It was hard to heed such a warning when a knife came flashing out at her. The man launched out, his knife up and shining. Sam ducked to avoid it, but before he could lower his arm he crumpled to the cobblestones with a groan, dropping the knife to clatter beside him. Sam dove for it before registering how the young man had fallen. A stone lay on the ground and blood seeped from a wound in his head. His attacker had not hit him hard enough to do more than knock him unconscious.
A figure landed from a nearby roof into the alleyway with the grace and quiet of a cat. “Lil?” Sam called out, relieved.
Lily emerged. “I thought I’d lost you. Then I heard some struggle the next street over and I just knew you had gotten yourself into trouble.” She shook her head, grinning. “You’re lucky I caught up to you.”
“Thank you. I think in the end I could have handled it, but I was getting tired.”
Lily looked over her ruefully. “I can tell. You’re more winded than you need to be. You know what they have said about your magic, Sam. You’re being too flashy.”
Sam brushed off her cloak. “No such thing.”
“I’m being serious. Still, I am glad your father trained you to fight like that.”
Sam nodded. She knew that if she had not had the lessons from her father growing up, she would not have been able to defend herself so well. “I know. Yeah. Sorry about being flashy. I will be more careful.”
When they were little and in Paris, Lily had pulled Sam out of a fight with a boy her own age over an apple. Not much had changed since then except Sam was better at fighting now than she was back then.
“Let’s go.” Lily turned to walk away. “I found another way to get to the port. A faster way.”
Sam was too busy searching the muggers. She found several magical trinkets, including amulets, bracelets, rings, and detonation devices that looked like music boxes. She picked up the other objects she had seen in their hands, too.
“What are those?” Lily asked.
Sam held them up. “They were talking about how they robbed someone. Must have been a wizard. There are so many things here though that I doubt they took them all off his person.”
“Out of a trunk or something?” Lily suggested.
“That’s what I was thinking.” Sam looked down at them. “We should try and find him. He has to be somewhere nearby. We can give them back.”
“We don’t have the time,” Lily reminded her.
Sam knew her friend was right. She stuffed the objects in her satchel, intent on examining them later. Perhaps with some disenchanting spell, she could discover the owner. She stood, facing her friend. “Where are we going?”
Lily glanced at the muggers, two of which were still conscious. “Wait until we’re out of earshot.” They left the young men there to groan, baffled about what had just happened.
That was a close call for Lily and Sam. Find out on May 30th if they are able to catch the boat, and what kind of trinkets they were able to recover. Until then, head over to Amazon and pre-order Le Paris Magic Académie Book 1: The Forbidden Incantations.

A Death Sentence Written in This Snippet of An Aria For The Vampire Book 1
An Aria For The Vampire Book 1: Growing Fangs
What do you do when you find out you only have months to live?
Growing Fangs snippet –
“I’m so sorry, Ms. Roede. The biopsy came back. It’s positive.”
Cora felt the last tattered scraps of hope float away in the wind, leaving her a hollow shell of a woman sitting in the doctor’s office.
She was dying. Dead woman walking, really.
“Stage IV,” the doctor continued, his tone kind but clinical. She couldn’t imagine being in his shoes, having to give this information. How often did he have to do so? He was an oncologist. She couldn’t even remember his name. She could barely remember her own, at this point.
“Can you hear me, Ms. Roede?”
Cora shook herself slightly and forced herself to meet his eyes. “Yes. Yes, I can hear you. Sorry.”
His smile was gentle and warm, the corners of his mouth crinkling his cheeks. He was probably in his late fifties. White hairs were just starting to turn his thick head of hair into salt and pepper. He was ruddy-faced and thin, and looked like the kind of guy who spent his weekends out at the lake, probably building his own cabin. The kind of guy who never had to deal with stuff like this himself. Or had, and had come through it the other side. It was hard to tell. “No apologies necessary. I know this must be hard to take. Your file says you’ve been to a few doctors. Trying to figure this out, I assume.”
She nodded mutely. Migraines ran in her family. It was a pretty common side effect when you had a family of telekinetics. Overuse and mental stress caused headaches no matter what, but telekinetic magic really did seem to put extra pressure on the brain. She hadn’t thought much of it for a long time. Her mom had gotten migraines, and her grandma. Nothing new there. When she’d talked to her mom about it, she’d told Cora she wasn’t surprised. She’d had an uptick in the headaches when she’d turned thirty, too. These things happen, her mom had said. Ride it out. Don’t use your magic. Be gentle with yourself.
But the migraines hadn’t stopped. They had kept getting worse, even when she wasn’t using her magic. When she’d started noticing her vision being affected without an accompanying headache, she’d gone to her doctor. Again.
Of course, old Doctor Cawthorn in Joseph’s Landing was…old. Old-school. Old-fashioned. Prone to declaring things ‘female hysteria.’ She’d only started going to him out of necessity, and she’d dealt as much as possible with his young intern, Alix. They’d been able to prescribe everything Cora needed on a regular basis, like birth control. The things she didn’t want to talk to George Cawthorn about.
But this, Alix had said ruefully when Cora had come to them, was beyond their skill level. This, they had to kick up the chain.
Cora had submitted to Doctor Cawthorn’s antique methods of magical medical diagnosis and been firmly told that she was suffering from an overuse of magic. “Women your age should be limiting their intense magical use,” Cawthorn had informed her primly.
Making sandwiches and having babies, no doubt, Cora had thought grumpily.
She’d tried Saint Damian’s intern program next. She’d gotten a dreamboat on her first visit, an absolute gentleman of a grad student, just starting his Doctor of Magical Medicine. She’d doubted sincerely that what’s-his-name had the experience to diagnose something like this, but even just being in the same room as him had been calming. He was the one who’d suggested she talk to an amagical doctor. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he highly recommended an MRI. “Enough guesswork,” he’d told her kindly. “You need the big guns. I can ask my supervisor to refer you to Doctor Moore in Thunder Bay. He’s great. Can you get there?”
Cora had promised him she could, and that was that. The intern—Cole, that was his name—had said he couldn’t guarantee when she would get in, but he’d promised to put the request in as urgent.
She’d had to go back to Saint Damian’s three more times before she’d finally gotten the notice that the referral had gone through and that she had an appointment at the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Center. She hadn’t gotten Cole again, which had rather disappointed her, but the interns she had gotten had all been quite competent and had helped her with the pain, so she couldn’t complain.
And now she was here. In Doctor Moore’s office. After three nights in an Airbnb that she could barely afford. Finding out, six months after she’d first started to suspect it was more than migraines, that she was dying.
Doctor Moore—she was so glad she’d remembered his name, but why that was the point of joy in her head right now, she couldn’t understand—was looking at her, not saying anything. Probably expecting her to burst into tears or wail in misery or something. How did terminal cancer patients usually handle this news? She had no idea.
“Is there anything you can do?” she finally asked, and her voice sounded like it was coming from at least two provinces over.
His lips twitched downward, and he blinked once, a little slower than a normal blink. Carefully practiced relaxations of the natural human impulse to wince when they had to deliver unfortunate news. That meant, of course, that the answer was going to be no.
“I’m sorry,” he began. “It’s not likely. If we’d caught it a little earlier, we might have been able to operate, but the tumor has metastasized beyond what we can remove without causing even more damage to your brain. You might live, but your quality of life would be…not great. Based on where the tumor is located, you’d likely lose a lot of mobility, and very possibly your ability to speak.”
A lump grew in her throat. Not being able to speak meant not being able to sing. And for some reason, that was what finally kicked her emotions into gear.
“I see.” Her voice cracked at the end of the word, and she didn’t bother trying to say anything more. What was there to say, anyway?
“Ms. Roede… Is there anyone you can talk to about this?”
She was watching the kind, avuncular man through a film of tears. Or was that another migraine coming on? She couldn’t tell. She was so disconnected from her body right now, it was anyone’s guess. “No?” There was, of course. There was her mother. But Cora didn’t want to call her mother.
“No friends or family? No partner?”
The image of Matt flashed into her mind, tall and powerfully built, running his hand through his thick dirty blond hair before sliding into his wolf form.
She shook her head. “No. I didn’t tell him about the biopsy. I can’t—”
Her voice gave out again. She swallowed hard and reached across the desk, plucking the brochures on palliative care from the little stand. May as well. If she was going to die, maybe she should be comfortable. Wasn’t that what people did? That, or they went off on one last great adventure, knocking as many things off their bucket lists as they possibly could before kicking said bucket.
Of course, if she couldn’t see straight, that put a damper on things.
Doctor Moore let her take them before saying, “I’d like to schedule a follow-up scan for you in two weeks. That should help us make a more exact prognosis, and we can discuss care options—”
“No, thank you,” she interrupted him. “No…thank you. I’ll… I’ll call whoever I need to call.”
“Are you sure?” He leaned forward, frowning slightly. “It can be difficult to get into these things if you don’t have the right connections. It’s a sad but true fact about the Canadian health care system. You’re in now, Ms. Roede. You can take advantage of that.”
Cora stared at him blankly for a long moment before finally asking, “How long do I have?”
The doctor gazed back at her for an equally long moment before replying, “I don’t want to sound like I’m harping on the follow-up scan, but without it, it’s hard for me to say for sure.”
Cora waved her hand dismissively. “Give me a ballpark.”
He pursed his lips briefly. “A conservative estimate would be three to six months.”
She closed her eyes, the words hitting her like punches to the gut. “And a…less conservative estimate?”
“I might say as long as a year. But I’d only see that happening if you were in inpatient care for most of that time, and again, quality of life…”
“That’s chemo, radiation, and all that. Right?” She opened her eyes again. She had no doubt there was absolutely no emotion showing in them right now, because she was back to feeling nothing at all.
“Yes,” he confirmed simply, nodding. “But if you needed that extra time to get everything in order…”
He reached across and tapped the brochures in her hand. “Those include plenty of information and numbers, lots of good resources. People who can help you get everything in order without costing you a fortune, and without making everything worse.”
He then pulled a business card from a smaller stand next to the one with the brochures and slid it across the desktop to her. “This is my card. Take the night, take a couple nights, and leave me a message if you change your mind about the follow-up scan. I know this is a shock, and I know how awful it is to try to get what you need after the fact. I try to keep the door open for my patients as long as possible. I’ll do whatever I can to help you, okay? I’m here for you, Ms. Roede.”
She nodded, her voice once again deserting her, and she added the business card to her little pile of paper.
She got up from the chair and numbly took her jacket from the hook on the wall. It felt like she’d hung it up hours ago. Days ago. But she knew her appointment had been for ten-thirty, and the clock on the wall only said ten-forty-seven.
Time had stopped making sense a long time ago, granted. Another symptom that she’d suspected meant “this isn’t just a magical migraine.”
She put her coat on and, with a silent nod to Doctor Moore, walked out of the office. She went through the sterile hallways of the health center without a word, her environment blurring in her peripheral vision. She kept her gaze straight ahead, neatly avoiding orderlies and techs and nurses as they hurried along to do their work.
She managed well enough until she almost ran into a fellow in a wheelchair turning down the hallway to the elevators. “Oh, I—I’m so sorry, sir,” she stammered, catching herself just shy of falling on top of him.
The older gentleman grinned up at her. “No problem, miss.” His grin showed a few missing teeth. “You look like you’re on a mission.”
She laughed through the blur, which she knew was tears because she felt them on her face. “I guess so.” Both the laugh and her voice sounded false.
He looked past her and his grin fell. ”Oncology. Ah.”
He reached over and took her hand. His skin was papery, but his hand was warm, and when he ran his thumb over the back of her hand, she couldn’t help but remember her grandfather, who’d passed away almost ten years ago, also from cancer. “I’m so sorry, miss.”
That was all anyone was going to say to her now, wasn’t it?
It doesn’t look good for Cora. What will her next move be? A bucket list trip as she mentioned? Reconnecting with loved ones? Find out on June 1st when Growing Fangs: An Aria for The Vampire Book 1.
