Strange contracts make strange currency.
For the last three years, I forged my own path through Messing Psychic Academy, assuming I’d walk alone. Miraculously, others traveled with me. Together, we learned something.
Some of us will never reach the end of this road.
Faeries shackled beneath the school anchored it in crueler times. The bargain that put them there requires payment. A succession of individual identities.
Each belongs to a dean, slowly drained away during tenure.
Dean Adelphi will fall to darkness when Ms. Catellus takes her place. When my teacher falls, it’ll be my turn on this dark wheel of fortune. To keep the status quo, train a new unwitting successor, break the hearts of loved ones I pledged to protect from harm.
Without a new way forward, I’m doomed to continue this injustice. The only thing I can think of is altering the contract somehow.
But what will it cost?
