Snippet #2
Jia crept out from behind the dark-masked terrorist.
He stood near the entrance to the top passenger deck. Erik trailed right behind her. It didn’t matter if the terrorist was nothing more than flimflam, a mix of nanites and light; her heart still pounded in her chest.
Train like it was reality, and it’d pay off at the right time.
He might turn at any second, and Erik and Jia would lose their chance at surprise. There was no way they could triumph in the scenario without maintaining surprise. She glanced around, her eyes back to watching the terrorist in no more than the time it would take to blink twice. Clearing out bad guys was easy, but not every confrontation was so straightforward.
Is this what normal people do on their days off? she thought.
As the terrorist grunted and turned, she slammed the butt of her rifle into the back of his head. He collapsed to the ground, his eyes rolling up.
“Nice,” Erik whispered. “I was wondering if you would do that, or if I’d need to tell you.”
“If we start shooting, they’ll know we’re here. We need to save that for the last moment.” She shrugged and gave Erik a playful grin. “And you knocked out the last one. It’s my turn.”
He gave her a nod after checking the downed man. read more…

Chapter 3
Raven was up early the next day, excited to get to her chores and head back to school. The sun was just rising over the horizon casting a soft light across the ranch when she headed out to feed the goats.
She didn’t see the crossbow in time before the tip of the arrow pierced her shoulder and lodged itself into the bone.
“Rrrrrgh!” She gritted her teeth, clenching her stomach to trap the scream that wanted to escape. She slowly exhaled through her nose and glanced at the small ranch house behind her. Nothing stirring inside – yet.
She looked down at the arrow sticking out. No time to get this out now. Raven lifted her eyes and saw the skinny, gangly short elf snatching up one of the dwarf goats into its bony arms The elf’s little bald head glistened in the rising sunlight.
Her right arm pressed to her side, Raven pushed off the ground with her left arm and up to her feet. She lifted the board with her left hand, leaning it against her shoulder. When he wakes up, the first thing he’ll say is, “Why didn’t you grab the sword?”
She charged after the elf again, who set the goat down long enough to fire another arrow, quickly gathering the bleating animal back up again. The arrow streaked toward Raven’s head. She hoisted the board in front of her, putting it between her face and the arrow, which embedded itself into the wood.
Without breaking her stride, she dropped the board and lunged after the elf, wrapping her arms around his shoulder and tackling him to the ground. He was much older than the teenager, but his spindly legs couldn’t outrun her.
He dropped the goat, who bleated upon impact. Raven grabbed the animal by the scruff of its neck and pulled it back, hoping to create enough distance between the kid and its pursuer. She barely had let go of the little goat when the elf drove both feet into her jaw, snapping her head back. She fell in a heap, dazed. read more…
Once Upon a Midnight Drow Snippet Time!

Once Upon a Midnight Drow
This is going to be one super fantastic week of new releases!!!!
I have something super special for you to check out today! I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this completely new book coming out later this week. For those Oriceran fans, sorry, this isn’t part of the Oriceran Universe. It’s a totally new series not connected to anything else, yet!
Chapter 1
It was time to do the impossible.
L’zar Verdys felt it coursing through him—the rightness of the moment, the tug pulling at his core to rise to the call and finally put into motion everything the soothsayer had predicted. For two hundred years, he’d waited for this night.
“Lights out in five.” The night guard stalked down the walkway of cell block Alpha, his boots clicking on the metal mesh.
“Not even gonna give us a pass for the new year, huh?” L’zar’s neighbor Relaude let out a low whistle.
The guard’s rhythmic footsteps stopped at the cell on L’zar’s right, and the metallic ping of the man’s cattle prod for magicals echoed through the block. Just a light tap-tap tap against the bars. “You don’t get a pass for another fifty years, Relaude.”
“Forty-nine, actually—”
The weapon cracked against the cell bars, throwing up a sizzling flash of purple sparks when the buzzing, electrically charged nightstick struck the cell’s magic-dampening wards. “We can double that if you want, inmate. Or you can keep your fat Orc mouth shut.”
Relaude let out a low, rumbling chuckle but didn’t say another word.
L’zar stretched out on the thin mattress of his single bunk, slate-gray arms folded behind his head of white hair as the guard picked up his slow, rhythmic march down the cells lining Alpha block. It sounded like Richardson, and sure enough, there was Richardson’s bulbous nose lit up in perfect profile as the man passed L’zar’s cell. The guard didn’t pause as he swept a quick gaze over the Drow prisoner’s bare, tidy box of a room. Just one eyebrow lifted in contempt, then he continued down the row. read more…

Warmage Snippet #2
Okay, are you ready for the next chapter in Warmage? I know I was! This is going to be one fantastic new series. Seriously, you don’t want to miss this one!!!!
Chapter 2
Deacon lay outstretched on his bed, resting his long, weary legs from another day of hard work. He waved his calloused hand dramatically at the window. “You have to be crazy! Look out the window. The sun is setting, man. There is no way you’re going back out there.” A look of dread came over his face.
Isaac pulled back the curtain covering the small window of their two-person, one-room wooden cabin that sat toward the middle of the Alby Ranch. A bright orange sliver peeked out over the horizon. “Not if I move quickly enough. I’m not afraid. Besides, those are just old stories about monsters told to scare children.” He punched his fist into his hand. “I have to get that harvester back.”
Deacon sat up on his bed, massaging his sore calves. “Do you even know where you left it?”
Isaac closed one eye and looked up at the thatched roof, biting his lip. His thick brown moustache curled into his mouth. “It couldn’t be more than a few dozen yards from the wall. We didn’t go out that far today, did we?”
“Nope. The polly grass was great. More than we even needed for the goats. I bet we get two… maybe three days of feed for them out of that once we grind it up.” He tilted his head back and forth, stretching out the muscles in his neck. “Makes for a good day at the office. Hell, if I’m going outside the wall for longer than I need to be. Even in the daylight, it gives me the creeps.”
Isaac marched over to the door and began shoving his feet into his work boots. Dried, caked-on mud crumbled off the edges and piled up on the woven rug. “It’s not a good day at the shop if I don’t get that harvester back.”
“What is the big deal? We probably got others out in the shed. And if not, old man Alby’s making good money right now. Ask him to buy you another one.”
“No, he won’t.” Isaac slipped on his olive canvas work coat. “The old wizard doesn’t want to foot the bill for another one. I know, because I lost one a couple months ago and he pissed and moaned about it so much, you woulda thought I lost his granddaughter or something. I could lose this job if he wakes up in the morning and that harvester isn’t here.” read more…
Enlightened Ignorance Snippet #1
Enlightened Ignorance Snippet #1
With the next book in the Opus X series, Enlightened Ignorance, coming out March 6, I thought it was time to tease you a little bit. Hehehe I also want to call all of the old Michael Anderle Pitchfork and Matches Crew back! Let’s let Michael know on Facebook that he needs to launch faster! I mean come on! We all read or listen to the books within a day of getting them, and then we have to wait 6 weeks? Seriously, Michael! You’re torturing us! LOL
Well, I guess I’m going to torture you a little bit with this snippet! Come back in a few days to get the next one. Trust me, it’s sooooo worth it!
Snippet #1
April 27, 2229, Neo Southern California Metroplex, Aurum Sphere Ball Stadium
Erik’s wide grin was one of the few in the sea of glum humanity choking the main arena’s long tunnel. The sphere-ball fans marched out like a defeated army, many with their heads down. The occasional red-faced man or woman muttered angrily, their stomping joining the shuffling footfalls of so many others.
Jia’s gaze slid toward Erik, suspicion clouding her dark eyes. “You’re not a traitor, are you, Erik?”
He chuckled, his eyes sliding toward his annoyed partner. “What are you talking about?”
“All loyal Dragon fans know what we just saw,” she insisted, nodding behind them. “But you’re acting like we played a great game.”
“The team won.” Erik shrugged. “I don’t see the big deal, but I’m smiling about something else.” He nodded toward where they had been sitting. “It’s just a weird thought I had during the game, and now that we’re leaving, it came back.”
Jia’s brow wrinkled. “Weird thought? Like what?” She wasn’t sure she should stop pursuing her mental accusation toward her partner yet.
“I never thought about it much,” Erik began, “but it’s the antigrav tech. You can’t play sphere ball without antigrav tech.”
“True enough.” Jia glanced at the area of play. “I’m sure there is all sorts of interesting sociology and psychology related to the Purist movement to explain how physical sports have lingered and haven’t been taken over by virtual sports, but it helps to see people doing something entertaining and impressive in real life. In this case, the tech enhances rather than distracts. If you want to read an interesting book on the history of sphere ball, there’s one I finished the other night I could recommend. It’s called Sphere of Destiny.”
Erik shook his head. “No, thanks. Not interested in the history. It’s the tech that’s got me thinking. I know humans were halfway to inventing it anyway, but everything I’ve read says the key parts were figured out by reverse-engineering Navigator tech. It’s not as awe-inspiring as HTPs and FTL travel, so no one cares.”
“Yes, so?” Jia blinked a few times, more confused than before. She slipped past one fan who’d had two or three alcoholic drinks too many to pay attention to her smaller body as he wandered along with the herd. “I’m not following you.”
Erik’s smile disappeared when a rowdy fan yelled right beside the two of them, and both winced. read more…
