BTF042: “Alexa, What Is Coming From LMBPN This Week?”

[powerpress]
In today’s episode of Behind The Fiction: The Book Lover’s Podcast, we give you all the details on what is coming your way this week from LMBPN!
The holidays are quickly approaching. You might think we’d be slowing down with our production schedule, but that’s definitely not the case. If anything we have as many, if not more books, releasing this week and four books the following week.
This week I have 7 amazing books and one box set launching this week. None of them are live today, which gives you a little bit of time to get caught up on what you’re currently reading to be able to start these great books later this week.
There are also three books available for pre-order which are releasing after Christmas. One of those comes with another contest.
The exciting conclusion to The Lazarus Codex releases this week with Until Death. The Holidays have been anything but relaxing for Lazarus Kerrigan. Between planning a wedding and selling his house, he’s barely had a moment to think about the supernatural. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t been thinking about him. Mask is making his move and Lazarus and company are going to take the fight to him. Don’t miss this thrilling final installment!
If you enjoyed the first six mystery novellas, then you’re in luck! Roseland: Volume Two, containing the next six novellas featuring our favorite snarky PI, Ginger Mitchell, returns this week. If you like series with realistic and relatable characters, you won’t want to miss this omnibus!
The long-awaited book 9 of Rise of Magic, Solyrian Conspiracy, releases later this week. Hannah is back. I repeat. Hannah is back after an almost two-year hiatus. Irth is no longer under threat, but that doesn’t stop people from acting like idiots. Hannah and her team of warriors must solve the murder of a king before his kingdom tears itself apart. An action-packed adventure full of twists and turns, Rise of Magic Book 09 will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Sophia Beaufont isn’t like any dragonrider that came before her. She’s using new world thinking for old world problems in Arbitrate or Die. Join Sophia as her adventures continue in this exciting urban fantasy series.
Lily and Romeo are close – a lot closer than before – to finding her mother in A Witch and a Hard Place. But when they get to the Black Heron Society’s hidden fortress, nothing is as it seems. Lily and Romeo will have to outwit the society and their leader to rescue her mother and themselves before magic is turned upside.
What do you get when you cross Area 51, Space Invaders, and a rip in the Veil? One BIG mystery that Penny and Boots will have to solve, or die trying, in Pixels and Poltergeists. Things just got more interesting. Not only have werewolves, ghosts, witches, and gods have come to life, so are spooky video games. Now, one of her friends is missing and it’s up to her to find him! Join her and her friends as they try to figure out and resolve what’s going on.
And finally, on the opposite end of the country, school is back in session with Paranormal University Third Semester. Claire is staring the first semester of her sophomore year. The cult is stirring up more problems. Will Claire survive not just her classes but whatever the cult throws at her and her friends?
This episode is available as a podcast available through your favorite podcast app and through LMBPN’s YouTube channel. If you’d like to subscribe through your favorite podcast apps you can search on Behind The Fiction.

The Final Shattered Truth Snippet!
It’s The Final Shattered Truth Snippet!
Tomorrow Shattered Truth launches and today you are getting the final sneak peek before the book goes live! I can’t believe the day is almost here, it’s about time!
Snippet #5:
Erik frowned. The weight of the rifle was all wrong—too heavy. An unwieldy weapon wouldn’t be good for field use, especially in a forest on a planet with two suns. It was the small details that kept reminding him he wasn’t actually on a frontier world, but instead in a holographic simulation supplemented by a quick-adjusting nanite-infused room that could provide at least a decent approximation of physicality and texture to back up the holographic illusions.
He preferred this kind of training to pure VR. His brain would never let him accept a lie beamed directly to his eyes. He would have to talk to them about a different rifle. He didn’t need a fake TR-7, but he wanted something that at least weighed what he expected, based on the appearance of the rifle.
Bad training bred bad habits.
Erik knelt behind a tree and waited. He had spotted the glint from a patrol in the distance a few minutes prior. He took shallow, quiet breaths, waiting. Patience won as many battles as bravery.
Branches crunched under boots in the distance. The targets were near. Two men emerged from the trees, not talking as they looked around.
Erik popped out from behind his cover and took two quick shots before the men even turned his way. They both fell without a scream or any sound at all except for a rustle of leaves and the crack of branches near the ground. He couldn’t claim that was completely unrealistic. Not every man survived long enough in a fight to let off a final scream or grunt, but he assumed Pacific Tactical Center kept the blood and screaming to a minimum for reasons other than realism concerns.
It didn’t matter. Right now, PTC was his only decent choice for keeping his edge.
The police had similar systems. However, since Erik was a detective and not a TPST member, they’d turned down his request to use them.
“Please consider joining the Tactical Police Specialist Team if you feel your talents lie in that area,” they told him. “But these aren’t toys for detectives to live out fantasies.”
Erik scoffed. Fantasies? He’d spent decades as a soldier. He understood fighting and killing dangerous enemies. In contrast, the average Earth customer probably wanted a heart-racing experience, not an actual depiction of war.
Jia might have been unusually naïve, but Erik’s time back on humanity’s home continued to prove that even people who knew better still wanted to look the other way and convince themselves Earth’s perfection was something other than mere propaganda fueled by the corporations who controlled the UTC in reality.
If enough people spouted the lie, it didn’t matter if it was true. It became true in a sick way. Was this how large swaths of humanity were controlled? Did it matter if the end result was a civil society?
It beat having to incarcerate tens of thousands of people who just accepted the false reality and didn’t push at the boundaries. At this point, he couldn’t come up with a good reason NOT to do it.

Shattered Truth will be live this Friday, December 13! Oh yeah! I’m ready for more Erik!

Snippet #4:
“So, all I have to do to get you off my back is earn a series of rapid promotions?” Jia joked.
“That would be proof that more immediate social realities could be delayed.” Lan agreed.
Jia bit her lip to keep from laughing. If her mother had been in the same room with her, she would have never gotten away with the sarcasm undetected. Lan Lin could look at the twitch of her daughter’s eyebrows and all but read her mind, but pure voice communication over a PNIU put them on more equal footing.
Jia was sure this had been true for generations of Lins going back to their homeland, to the very first Lin family who had a mother and daughter.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” she replied. A snicker still threatened to slip out. It was time to escape. “I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s been a long day, and there are a few things I’d like to take care of before I sleep.”
“Very well, then,” Lan offered. “I’ll speak to you later.”
“I’d like that.” Jia was surprised by her admission, hoping it would not come back to bite her later. “I miss talking to you, Mother. I’d like to do it more directly, not mediated through Mei.”
“Perhaps I can attempt to adjust my schedule, but there will be numerous issues requiring my attention during the next several weeks, just so you know.”
Jia sighed. “I understand. I just wanted you to know. I love you, Mother.”
“I love you, too, Jia. I hope you remember that, even if you don’t always agree with the rest of what I do. We will speak again, and sooner than the previous delay. For now, goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
Lan terminated the call.
Jia lingered near her window, pondering her family.
Her father, mother, and sister all opposed her working as a detective, but her recent successes had denied them their previous major lines of attack. The Lin family might pride itself on being important in the business world, but more than anything, the family obsessed over being the best, and right now, Jia’s successes pointed to her being on track to being a good detective, if not potentially one of the best.
“I finally got what I wanted,” she murmured. “And all I had to do was expose the disgusting truth behind the city. It’s almost funny in a sick way.”
Jia shook her head, then touched the window to fully blacken it and headed toward the door. A quick jaunt down the hallway brought her to a small brightly lit room. The door slid open, and she stepped in.
A cloud of sweet fragrances settled over her. Jia smiled. Two tables held rows of carefully arrayed earth-tone pots, each containing a different flower. She had arranged them to form a natural color gradient from blue on one end to red on the other.
Messing around with an indoor flower garden used to calm her, but she’d let herself be distracted in the last year and had given up her hobby after six months on the force. With the recent success, she had decided to start up again.
She had cheated a little with plants ready to bloom as a reward.
Being a detective defined her, and she had no problem with that. It was what she wanted, but somehow, being around Erik, with his ridiculous sports flitter and cavalier attitude, reminded her that she wasn’t just a cop; she was a human being who should not be defined only by her job.
Or how viable a marriage partner she might be.
Dancing with her friends was one way to remember that, but she needed beauty and relaxation in her home before she let the job consume everything, and she had pushed away flowers as well.
“If I’m going to continue digging into the darkness in Neo SoCal,” Jia murmured, “I better have something good waiting for me when I get home.”

Poor Jia. But, who hasn’t had an issue relating to at least one of their parents, if not both? I hope by the end of this Jia and her family are able to get along better. 🙂
