John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum Review

Opening to $53 million dollars, this third installment of the John Wick franchise knocked Avengers: Endgame off the top of the mountain on its release this weekend. Picking up mere minutes after the end of the after the fact renamed John Wick: Chapter 2, Parabellum follows Wick, played masterfully deadpan by Keanu Reeves, as he flees assassins of the criminal organization The High Table after murdering one of their leaders, while another Table agent comes to New York City to punish all those who aided him. It’s a wild ride of nearly non-stop action, neon noir scenes, and nearly comedic levels of violence. If you aren’t a fan of that sort of thing, this film isn’t for you, but if you love this series, this third film is more of the same.

While Parabellum demands that you have seen the first two films to follow the events of what’s going on within it, it does so in such a way that isn’t abrasive but instead feels natural. It’s almost as if they were filmed back to back. In that way, they would almost be better served in a marathon, watching all three in succession to get the full scope of the tale. While you never have to ever really watch anything in a certain order, and a movie being good should rest on how good it is on its own, it is made better when the other two are fresh in mind.

Reeves, once again, is perfect in his distant and often times deadpan delivery of lines and his kinetic portrayal of action. As all three films take place in the span of a few weeks, you can see the toil his new set of Herculean trials takes from him, and his determination to push on through the weariness and pain. Somehow, through being more reserved in the acting of the part, the depiction is that of the strong and silent, rather than underacted or boring.

The rest of the cast is amazing as well. Halle Berry’s Sofia plays as hot as Reeves’ Wick is cool, all emotion and read more…

Introducing Hatch – Ghost Squadron Character Interview

I was lucky in that I had a chance to sit down with Dr. A’Din Hatcherik, aka Hatch, and ask him some fun questions about his character in the Ghost Squadron series. The first 4 books of the series are on sale this week for only 99c in a boxed set! There’s even a special deal for the Audible version of the boxed set.

I must admit, this was the, uh, most interesting character interview I’ve done to date. When your subject has 8 tentacles, it can get a bit uncomfortable in a small room. LOL But he was so nice and easy to chat with, once I got past the octopus in the room.

  • Tell me a little about yourself (what do you look like, where do you live, what book are you in)

My name is Doctor A’Din Hatcherik and I’m a Londil from the planet Ronin. Although I resemble an octopus, I prefer not to be closely associated with them. Yes, I have eight tentacles and three hearts like the creature most humans are familiar with, I’m also capable of many higher level functions like talking, completing quantum equations and showing restraint when around dumb people. Currently I live on board Ricky Bobby, a ship that I renovated myself. You can read my stories in the Ghost Squadron and Precious Galaxy series.

  • How do you evolve during the course of the story/series?

Some believe that I’m heartless, although as I’ve already mentioned, I have more hearts than the seemingly sympathetic humans. I just don’t put up with incompetence and apparently that comes off as a bit abrasive to some. I’m okay with that if it keeps the idiots away. However, during my time working with the crew, I learned that all work and no play make me…well, bitter. So I’ve tried to learn to enjoy activities. Currently, I’m fixing up a DeLorean but the flux capacitator is giving me trouble.

  • Do you have an enemy or nemesis? If so, who are they and how did they become an enemy?

Welcome to the Week In Review! May 12 – 18

Week in Review

This past week was an exciting one! Wasn’t it?

Welcome to the Week in Review May 12 – 28, 2019

We started a brand new YA Vampire series, ended an exciting and sometimes scary science fiction, and then added 3 more books to popular series! Whew! That was A LOT!

Bethany-Anne released her next book, showing how she and her team are dealing with the scourge of the universe.

The latest Federal Agent of Magic is expanding her operations and having some seriously great times while getting rid of the nasty, bad buys!

We saw the close to the Zoo Apocalypse Paused series and said goodbye to some friends. But don’t worry, there’s more to come with the Zoo! When one door closes, another is ripped open by the inhabitants.

A brand new foray into teen vampires joined the team this week. Being the last vampire is bad enough, but also being a teenager in today’s society is really rough! I’m so glad I’m not a teen anymore.

A classic story was retold by the Warner twins! Even their parents got in on the action this time.

With all of this action, adventure, intrigue, fantasy, death, bad guys getting beat downs, and sci-fi craziness, I hope you enjoyed the various worlds our authors have created. Come on over and check out the Week In Review today!

LMBPN published the audio version of A.L. Knorr’s Born of Aether novel and series. The eBook itself has been a multi-time bestseller on Amazon, as well as the other books in the series along with the boxed set. And this YA Fantasy tale has spoken to readers of all ages, not just fans of YA. Born of Aether is book 4 of 8 in the Elemental Origins Series, but the series can be listened to in any order. The outstanding and award-nominated audio was narrated by the very talented Gabra Zackman!

Born of Aether audio

Thousands of copies sold, over a million pages read. Fans love the supernaturals of the Elemental Origins series.

They say if you tell a lie long enough, you’ll eventually believe it, but Akiko will never forget who she really is.

Akiko Susumu is not what she seems. Her life as a normal teen living in a coastal Canadian town is a complete sham. The old man she lives with is not her grandfather, he’s her captor. And Akiko isn’t a teen. In fact, she isn’t even human.

But Akiko isn’t allowed to share the reality of her true nature with a single soul. Not even her three best friends know of the power she could wield, given the chance.

So, when she’s sent back to her homeland to steal an ancient samurai sword, she jumps at the chance to secure her freedom, only to get caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with the most dangerous crime syndicate in Japan.

Can Akiko escape with her life and her soul, or is true freedom as elusive as the Aether she was born from?

Born of Aether is the fourth book in the Elemental Origins series (which can be enjoyed in any order), a saga which follows four best friends over one magical summer. If you like incredible abilities, strong female characters, and a little romance, then you’ll love A.L. Knorr’s YA fantasy adventure series.

Download your audio copy today and see why this is nominated for an Audie Award! And keep an eye out for the award ceremony in June! Fingers crossed Gabra and A.L. Knorr win this fantasy category!

Detective Pikachu Review

Right out of the gate one must remind would be viewers of this movie that Detective Pikachu is PG-rated, and that it, like the games it is based from, is meant for children first and foremost. Now, that doesn’t mean that a large fraction of its viewership won’t be millennial adults who remember playing Pokémon, but one has to remember that just like those games, they aren’t meant for us. Taking that into account, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu is a wild ride that left me smiling in joy for hours after viewing it.

The story follows Tim Goodman, played by Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Get Down), who despite living in a world surrounded by Pokémon, does not want to take one as a partner. This sets him out as strange, as everyone else seems to have a Pokémon companion of their own, even if they aren’t a full-on trainer who takes on the gym system. After the death of his father, who is a detective for the police department of the metropolis Ryme City, where pokémon and humans live side by side. When he comes to deal with the death, he encounters his father’s pokémon companion, a Pikachu who, unlike any other pokémon, can talk to him, voiced by Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Hitman’s Bodyguard). This is not the only mystery the pair discover, and together, with the help of intrepid would-be reporter Lucy, played by Kathryn Newton (Blockers, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and her psyduck, they figure it all out and save the day.

The film plays out like not unlike one of the mainline games, with a young man, though much older than anyone in the games, in a world read more…
